Discuss the approach that Smith portrays and how she structures her work building toward the final scene in the play. Discuss how effectively she creates this work for television and how different it might be between a stage version and a television version that you watch.
Smith approaches her work as a one woman show who portrayed characters from different ranges of backgrounds in order to giver her own testimonial of the humanistic qualities that her guests possessed. She keeps the dignity of the character by not satirizing them, but have their words drive Smith into characters with a rational standpoint that was involved during the riots of Crown heights. Smith succeeded in her portrayal of men as well as did for the women characters which added complexity of her play. The play was structured in a sort of fashion that could have been proceeded as a testimonial rather than a structured story. There is not a lot of critiques I had for her performance because she was truly good in her own work!
